White Cube

RICHARD PHILLIPS
Most Wanted
Hoxton Square

One of the things I was looking forward to the most was visiting the ultimate London Galleries like the White Cube. OH, how I was disappointed!

An exhibit of glossy paintings of young stars.... is the last thing I have the urge to see in a Gallery. There is plenty of that consuming our every day life. Even respected news web sites like the Huffington Post are posting rumors and "who looks the best" pictures, these days.

This exhibit is about "addressing the marketability of our wishes, identity, politics, sexuality and Morality" the White Cube Gallery write. Well... I think that is giving the exhibit a bit too much intellectual credit, don't you think?

With photorealism and a few classic brand names pasted up as the backdrop to the paintings. I think this is an embarrassing and cheap attempt at selling out. I feel sorry for the wealthy buyers who actually think this is worthy of their collection.

The good thing is that the White Cube has another location as well at the Mason's Yard, and they are at the moment showing Mona Hatoum, an artist that I am very excited about. I can't wait for The White Cube to show me what they are good at!?

With Love
