Tree

Tania Kovats
Tree 2009
Natural History Museum

A quick post today before I run out on my Art Adventures!

"There is a grandeur in this view of life... from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved."
-Charles Darwin ; on the Origin of Species (1859)

At the Natural History Museum they recently (2009) celebrated the 200 years it has been since Darwin was born with an installation of a tree.

The Artist Tania Kovats used a diagram from his Transmutation Notebook B of 1837 as an inspiration to this piece. The 200 year old oak tree from Wiltshire was replaced with 200 saplings as a living legacy.

The way it is cut, reminds me slightly of the way the Oceanic people was doing it with their House Post's, as seen at the Met.

My three boys
At the end of this gorgeous room under the large windows you can find the tree!

If you go to the Natural History Museum on a weekend... it can be good to know there is one room where you can feel calm and away from the Dinosaurs, which are my little ones favorite of course....

With Love
Kristin

  4. A beautiful tree and a beautiful back story.
Your "three" boys are such a delight to see. It looks as though they are having the best time together.
I'm enjoying your adventures Kristin! From the smiles of your last post with it's mixed commentary to the calmness of a magnificent tree.
